HOW IT WORKS

FAQ's

Find answers to commonly asked questions about our services and approach.

Do I have to talk about my loss in every session?

No. You choose what we talk about.

How long will therapy take?

As long as you need, and not one session more. At the end of every session, you decide whether you want another one. There is no set number, no arbitrary endpoint. We're done when you say we're done.

Do you work with people who are not grieving a death?

Yes. Grief follows any loss that was meaningful to you. If it matters to you, it matters.

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?

That's exactly why I offer a free 15-minute consultation. We talk first, and if we both think I'm a good fit for you, we schedule. You can also stop working with me at any time, no explanation needed.

Do you take insurance?

No. Over the years, insurance companies have stopped covering most of what I work with: life situations that are not diagnosable illnesses. Grief, loss, and the hard parts of being human don't always come with a billing code, and I won't misdiagnose you. Moreover, when insurance does pay, they either limit the number of sessions or cap the cost, and you reach the point of paying out of pocket pretty quickly, anyhow. I do believe therapy should be inclusive, though, so if you’re asking for financial reasons, please reach out through Open Path Collective.

What are your rates?

My rate is $150 per 50-minute session. If that's hard right now, reach out through my Open Path Collective profile. They'll determine your eligibility, and I'll see you at a rate you can afford.

What is your cancellation policy?

I charge my full fee for cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, except in cases of force majeure. That is your time, and you reserved it. It's also worth knowing that research, as well as my own experience, shows that people who know this policy tend to cancel last-minute far less often.

How do I get started?

Contact me by phone or email. We'll talk, and if I'm a good fit for you, we'll schedule.

What platforms do you use for online therapy?

I use Simple Practice, a confidential EHR built specifically for therapists and in partnership with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes, for people who feel comfortable with online communication and have access to a private, quiet space. For most people, it works just as well.

Do you work with children?

I work with clients 12 and older. I do not offer play therapy.

What languages do you offer therapy in?

Hebrew and English.

What is your approach to suicide and suicidal ideation?

I believe suicidal ideation is often a sign of a desire to relieve pain through a misguided path. I assess risk factors, as well as reasons to live and for hope. I will always work to remove means and do everything I can to keep people safe and in their homes. If a higher level of care is needed, I will refer you to a medical facility.

Are you LGBTQIA+ affirming?

Very much so. While I am not part of the community myself, I am deeply affirming. More importantly, I know what I don't know, and I will consult or refer whenever that serves you best.

What is a GTC ®?

Geek Therapy Certified, or geek therapist: A therapist who intentionally uses popular culture (TV, movies, video games, DND) to support the therapeutic process. I use TV scenes, interview clips, and sometimes music.

What is a CT ®?

Certified Thanatologist: a therapist or educator who specializes in grief. The certificate is offered by The Association of Death Education and Counseling and maintained through continuing education.
